Crista Noel Smith was born in England and raised in the United States. She spent her formative years in Hawaii and the American Southwest. After training as a theatre designer at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama she won the Linbury Prize for Stage Design in 2003. A practiced artist and maker, she delights in applying her skills to the worlds of theatre, puppetry and sculpture. She is excited to combine all three in a new undertaking, Little Tin Smith. Her work is drawn from a blend of bookishness and imagination, inspired by folklore and fairy tales, circus and sideshow history, the Golden Age of Exploration, cabinets of curiosities and countless museums, as well as her own peripatetic upbringing. In addition to making things, Crista is an ardent bibliophile, knitter and nascent ukuleleist. She adores puppets, books, toy theatres, automata, illustration, libraries, dancing bears, interesting hats, animation, vintage textiles, argyle socks, odd ephemera and storytelling in every form. She lives and works in England and the United States.
